The Cascades Raptor Center is offering free admission this week last week, in celebration of their 25th anniversary.
“Through wildlife rehabilitation and public education, Cascades Raptor Center fosters a connection between people and birds of prey. Our goal is to help the human part of the natural community learn to value, understand, and honor the role of wildlife in preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the Pacific Northwest.” -Cascade Raptor Center website
We started Exploring Creation with Zoology 1: Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day this fall. The kids are also working on some awards in Scouts and American Heritage Girls that involve studying birds. We’ve been interested in taking birdwatching to another level in our Nature Studies, so this the perfect timing for such an event!
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” -Isaiah 40:31
“Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south? Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high? She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place. From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off. Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.” -Job 39:26-30
While observing these birds, we noticed that us people weren’t the only ones doing the observing. As you can see in these photos, they were keeping a keen eye on us, as well.
